Resolving error "An RM error occurred. Unable to initialize DB2 services"
You may need to increase the IBMŽ DB2 Universal Database™ Enterprise Server Edition MAXAPPLS configuration parameter if you do any of the following:

Run multiple server add-in tasks such as LDAP, POP3, or CA.
Add additional replicators or routers.
Frequently run tasks such as replication or indexing from the server console.

If the error message "An RM error occurred. Unable to initialize DB2 services" displays after performing any of the actions listed above, modify the value assigned to the DB2 configuration parameter, MAXAPPLS.

When determining the value to set for MAXAPPLS, use these guidelines:

Count each Server thread as one DB2 application. Use the Server document -- Basics tab -- Number of active threads: field. The default is 40 for Win32.
Count each HTTP thread as one DB2 application. Use the Server document -- Internet Protocols -- HTTP tab, Number of active threads: field. If enabled, the default for Win32 is 40.
Other Server add-in tasks generally count as 2 DB2 applications. Some tasks have multiple threads.
Finally, add 10 for other uses, for example, the DB2 Control Center or "DB2 - CLP" sessions.

In this procedure, you reset two DB2 configuration parameters, MAXAPPLS and MAXAGENTS.

1. Choose Start - Programs - IBM DB2 - Command Line Tools - Command Line Processor.

2. In the Command Line Processor (CLP) window, enter this command:

db2 update db cfg for <database name> using MAXAPPLS 100

3. Reset the DB2 configuration parameter MAXAGENTS to approximately 3 times the value of MAXAPPLS, by entering the following in the CLP window:

db2 update dbm cfg for <database name> using MAXAGENTS 400
