Lotus Domino Access includes out of office and change password features, and the ability to import and export Internet certificates. Users can set Lotus Domino Preferences including mail file preferences, setting up free time and busy hours, autoprocessing, and customizing replication settings. Replication synchronizes the Outlook client with Lotus Domino so that the Outlook .PST file is identical to the mail file. For users who access their mail using both IBM® Lotus® Notes® and Outlook, users need only to make a change one time, and the changes appear in both places for Mail, Calendar, Tasks, and Contacts. Users can also work offline, using a local replica of the Domino directory.
If more than one person shares a single workstation, they can share a Lotus Domino Access installation, by using the multi-user installation option. In a multi-user installation, each individual user can have a private folder hierarchy as their data directory (for example, C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\DAMO_Data). This provides a certain level of privacy. However, for security users also need to assign a password to their local mail file (*.PST file), because with Lotus Domino Access, all files are local on the workstation. (Typically, in both a standard Notes environment and a standard Outlook environment, this is not necessary because the mail file is on the server, and the server controls access.)
Note Microsoft Outlook XP and Outlook 2003 each have a different method of assigning a password to the local data file. Users should refer to the on-line help for their release of Outlook.
Before installing Lotus Domino Access, you must set up users for installation.
If you are upgrading from 6.5.x to 7.0 or later, see the topic Upgrading IBM Lotus Domino Access for Microsoft Outlook 6.5.x.
