DATABASE MANAGEMENT

Replicating unread marks
Unread marks can be replicated for selected databases, most notably mail databases, by using the advanced database properties from the IBM® Lotus® Domino™ Administrator or from the database properties box. When you enable the replication of unread marks on mail databases, users can read their mail from a workstation on ServerA, and after replication, can read their mail from a workstation on ServerB, with unread mail clearly delineated from mail that has previously been read. When the replicate unread marks feature is enabled for a database, the unread marks are replicated along with the database according to your established replication schedule. This feature is intended primarily for mail databases.

Note Replicating unread marks in high-activity user databases other than mail databases is not recommended due to the performance impact.

Synchronizing unread marks before replicating

Before enabling replication of unread marks, ensure that the unread marks in the database and in all of its replicas are synchronized. If you enable replication of unread marks and the unread marks are not already synchronized between the database and all of its replicas, those unread marks will not be synchronized unless you do so manually. Once unread marks are synchronized and the replicate unread marks feature is enabled, the unread marks remain synchronized.

Use one of these methods to synchronize unread marks:

Enabling replication of unread marks

Note The Advanced Database Properties are available only to those administrators listed in the Administrators field on the Security tab of the Server document.

1. From the Domino Administrator, click the Files tab.

2. Select the database(s) for which you are enabling the replication of unread marks.

3. From the Tools pane, click Database - Advanced Properties.

4. Click Select and then click the check box to left of Replicate unread marks.

5. Do one of these:

6. Click OK.

Disabling replication of unread marks

1. From the Domino Administrator, click the Files tab.

2. Select the database(s) for which you are disabling the replication of unread marks.

3. From the Tools pane, click Database - Advanced Properties.

4. Click the "Select" check box to the left of Replicate unread marks and then click the Replicate unread marks check box to remove the check mark from that check box.

5. Click OK.

Enabling or disabling replication for one database directly from the client

If you are enabling or disabling replication of unread marks for one database, you can do so directly from the client. Open the database for which you are enabling or disabling replication of unread marks. Choose Files - Application - Properties. Click the tab furthest to the right on the Properties dialog box. Choose one of the "Replicate Unread Marks" settings to enable or disable replication of unread marks.
