1. Create a full-text index for the directory.

2. If you've created a full-text index for the directory and performance is still slow, consider editing the value of these LDAP configuration fields:

• "Maximum number of entries returned" limits the number of entries that the LDAP server can return. By default there is no limit, but you might set a limit of 100 entries, for example.
• "Timeout" limits the amount of time that LDAP searches can take. By default, there is no limit, but you might set a limit of 60 seconds, for example.
• "Minimum characters for wildcard search" increases the number of characters that users must enter before the first wildcard in a substring search filter. The default is 1. Don't specify 0 unless the directory is very small; specifying 0 can result in slow searches.
