Adjusting buffer pool size
If you are running a DB2-enabled IBM® Lotus® Domino™ server, where almost all data is in IBM® DB2 Universal Database™ Enterprise Server Edition, and Domino and DB2 are installed on the same computer, you can improve performance by using a NOTES.INI variable to reduce the size of the Domino buffer pool.

Use the NOTES.INI setting, NSF_BUFFER_POOL_SIZE_MB= to adjust buffer pool size. For example,

NSF_BUFFER_POOL_SIZE_MB=128

When using a DB2-enabled Domino server, most data is in DB2; therefore, less memory is required for Domino's buffer pool and more memory is required for DB2's several buffer pools.

Adjust buffer pool size according to the amount of memory on your computer.

The minimum amount of memory is 512KB -- nothing smaller. A machine with less than 1GB memory may not work well.
Reduce buffer pool settings by half for large buffer pools, but leave small buffer pool settings as they are.
Double the size of the large buffer pools if you have 2GB - 4GB memory.

If you are using the algorithm for Domino R5, and Domino 7 (or more recent) and DB2 reside on the same computer, set NSF_BUFFER_POOL_SIZE_MB to a value less than the value suggested by the R5 algorithm. For example, if the algorithm suggests 200MB, try using 128MB. The exact adjustment depends on the exact mix of NSF and DB2 enabled IBM® Lotus® Notes® databases. If you use very few NSFs, try further reducing the buffer pool.
