Status bar: current state information
The status bar appears at the bottom of the IBM® Lotus® Notes® main window. As you work in Lotus Notes, system messages and features appear in the status bar. The status bar is context-sensitive. The messages and features that appear in the status bar depend on the task you are performing and where you are in Lotus Notes.

The status bar in Lotus Notes shows:

Whether Lotus Notes is accessing the network (a lightning bolt appears).
A history of all messages for the session.
Your level of access to the current application and your membership in groups and roles (click the key icon).
Whether an open mail message has been encrypted and/or digitally signed by the sender.
Your current location and switch to another location.
The progress of tasks that Lotus Notes performs in the background (for example, saving attachments or replicating applications).
Tip During a background task with a lot of status information, such as replacing the design of an application, click the status bar, and the history list expands in size and scrolls to show you as much information as possible.
The font (typeface), size, or paragraph style of selected text when you're editing a document.
Your online status for instant messaging; perform other instant messaging actions (you can change your status here also)
The language tag name for the current or selected text in a document.
A Quickpick menu you can use to perform common mail tasks such as creating a message or scanning for unread mail by clicking the mailbox icon.
Tip The Send Outgoing Mail, Send & Receive Mail, and Receive Mail commands on this menu work with both Lotus Notes mail and Internet mail.

To modify the status bar

Preferences let you modify the status bar. You can add or remove items and establish the order in which the status bar items will display.

1. Choose File > Preferences > Status Bar Preferences.

Macintosh OS X users:

Lotus Notes > Preferences > Status Bar Preferences

2. Select the items you want to display on your status bar by clicking the check box. If you are uncertain as to what an item will show on the status bar, click it and a brief description of the item will appear in the Description section of the dialog box.

Note

To remove an item from the status bar, click its check box.

Tip If you enable the Progress item, you can also set Audible notification when complete, and Lotus Notes beeps when the task in progress, such as replication, completes.

3. (Optional) Change the width of a selection's status bar button by clicking the up or down arrows next to the Width preference.

Note

The

Status

item, when selected, allows you to change the height as well as the width of the button. More height may be useful for the history list.

4. (Optional) Click the Move Left and Move Right buttons to reorder the items. The item at the top of the list will display at the far left of your status bar.

5. Click OK.

To discard all the modifications you've made and return to the original settings for the status bar, click the Defaults button.

Tip You can open Status Bar Preferences by right-clicking anywhere on the status bar and choosing Status Bar Preferences.
