MAIL

Displaying MIME character sets when sending or receiving messages
If you receive a message in MIME format that contains a character set but does not correctly indicate its character set, you can choose the correct character set from a list of options. For example, if you receive a mail message in MIME format from a friend in Japan, but you see only scrambled ASCII characters as the body text, it probably means that the message was not correctly encoded by the sender, so IBM® Lotus® Notes® is using the wrong character set to display the message. By choosing the correct Japanese character set, you can then read the message in its proper format.

Similarly, if you are creating a message to send to someone in MIME format, you can have Notes use a specific character set.

To switch a MIME character set when reading a message sent in MIME format

This option is available only if you receive a message in MIME format.

1. Open the message.

2. Click View > Encoding > the desired character set or Other.

3. If you clicked Other, select the language character set required to read the message.

To select a MIME character set when creating a message to send in MIME format

1. Create a message.

2. Above the message, click Delivery Options.

3. Click Advanced.

4. Select the character set in the MIME Character Set field, and then click OK.

Note If you select a character set and decide not to keep the results, repeat Steps 2 and 3, and then select Default as the character set. Notes returns to an appropriate character set based on the content of the message.
