WORKING WITH NOTES DOCUMENTS

Creating and saving Notes documents
The types of documents you can create depends on the design of the application you are using. For example, in your Mail application, the default new document on the action bar is New Message. In addition, the File > New menu allows you to create mail memos, tasks, calendar entries, and more. You can create a document in an application if you have Author access, Depositor access, or higher.

You can save a document you're working in and keep it open, or save an open document and close it.

Also, if the design of the application you are working in includes the AutoSave feature, you can temporarily save draft documents at intervals to a local encrypted application You can also temporarily save a draft to that application using File > AutoSave > AutoSave Now.

If you are working in an application on a server and the server fails, the document is saved to a failover server. When you save the document, a message displays telling you that the current server was unavailable, and the name of the server to which the document was saved. If neither server is available, you are given the opportunity to stay in edit mode so that your edits are not lost.

Note Notes documents are different from the word processing documents created using the Lotus Documents tool. If you installed Lotus Documents on your system, see the productivity tools section of Help for information on creating and formatting word processing documents.

To temporarily save draft documents to a local application file

Saving in-progress documents to a local encrypted application file allows you to recover your work after power outages and system crashes. When you finish working on a document and send/save or discard it, IBM® Lotus® Notes® removes it from the local file.

Note This feature is available only if the application design includes AutoSave for the form on which the documents are based.
