SETTING PREFERENCES

Setting defaults for spell checking
You can set the spell checker to ignore words containing numbers or words all in uppercase. This is useful when you know those words should not be spell checked (for example, they may be code fragments).

You can also set Lotus Notes to keep "on the fly" dictionary changes. This is useful when you are editing a document that contains text in multiple languages, but not all the text is tagged for language. Lotus Notes lets you switch to a language dictionary "on the fly" for text that is not tagged, and only switches automatically to the correct dictionary when you encounter text that is tagged for a language.

For example, suppose you are editing a document that contains English, German, and French text, and the German text is not tagged, but the French text is. You can spell check the English text, switch to the German dictionary (using the Dictionary drop-down menu of languages) before spell checking the German (non-tagged) text, and let Lotus Notes switch automatically to the French dictionary when the spell checker encounters the French (tagged) text.
