Information that replicates through the roaming user server
After you set up as a roaming user, Notes replicates three applications (by default) when you start Notes on any computer: the Contacts, Bookmarks, and the Personal Journal. However, Notes replicates your Personal Journal application only if a Personal Journal application exists at the time you upgrade to a roaming user. If you create a Personal Journal later, ask your administrator for assistance in replicating it to your directory on your roaming user server. This server is usually the same as your home server.

Notes also copies some information from other applications and from your NOTES.INI configuration file (Macintosh users, your Notes Preferences file) and stores it in the three applications.

If your organization allows it, you can include one or more additional applications with the three that Notes replicates by default. To do so, create a replica of the application(s) in your directory on the roaming user server, or ask your administrator for assistance.

  • Your user ID (if your organization allows its replication, and if your administrator selected the option for replicating it) and your user dictionary as file attachments. Your user ID is doubly encrypted for added security before being attached.

    Because your ID replicates, you will no longer need to copy it to different computers when you modify it (for example, by changing the password). However, until replication occurs, a change such as a new password may not take effect immediately. If this happens, use your previous password.
  • Most of the settings in the User Preferences dialog box, except for those that are specific to your operating system's configuration. Examples include fonts, communication ports, background printing, bi-directional language settings, and file paths.
  • Many NOTES.INI values. For more information, see NOTES.INI values stored in the Contacts application for roaming users.
Bookmarks (bookmark.nsf)
  • Your personal Welcome page.
  • Any private views you've created in applications.
  • Any toolbar preferences you've modified.
  • Settings for any framesets you've modified in applications that allow such modification. For example, you may have shrunk the left frame of a Discussion application so you could see longer document titles in the view in the right frame).

The following values in your NOTES.INI (Macintosh users, Notes Preferences) file are stored in the Contacts application, so that most of your settings will be the same on all the computers you use.


Items that do not replicate through the roaming user server

Be aware that these items do not replicate, so you can't expect them to have the same data on all the computers you use.
