COMPOSITE APPLICATIONS - DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT

Using the Composite Application Editor
To edit existing composite applications, you can launch the Composite Application Editor. The Composite Application Editor lets you assemble or edit composite applications.

Note You install the Composite Applications Editor during IBM® Lotus® Notes® 8 (Standard) installation. The Composite Application Editor is launched from the Notes client.

A composite application can be hosted on either an IBM® Lotus® Domino(TM) server or a Portal server. No matter where it resides, you can edit the application using the Composite Application Editor.

Note The Composite Application Editor allows you to edit active applications that reside on an IBM® Lotus® Domino® server or on IBM® WebSphere® Portal. You can also edit application templates that reside on WebSphere® Portal. If you plan to work with composite applications that reside on WebSphere Portal, you must first install WebSphere Portal composite application support for Lotus Notes on the WebSphere Portal server. For information, refer to the Domino 8 Administrator help and Installation Guide.

Composite applications that are hosted on an IBM WebSphere portal server are listed in the Application Catalog. Composite application templates for these application reside in the Template Library. You can see the composite applications and application templates to which you have access. To see the Application Catalog or the Template Library you must have a home portal specified as part of your user preferences.

You can view the Application catalog by choosing Open > Portal Catalog and you can see the Template Library by choosing Open > Template Library. Composite applications that reside on a Domino server are available using the File > Open > Lotus Notes Application command to browse for an application on a server.

If you have access to edit an application, you can use the Composite Application Editor to edit the live application. Changes you make are reflected immediately in the application.

To put the application in edit mode, choose Actions > Edit Application. Once you are in edit mode, your workplace displays an application menu pane on the left that provides you with direct access to edit application elements, and a component palette on the right, which lists components you can add to your application. The center of the workspace displays the application components for the current page. Note also that when you enter edit mode, an Application menu displays as part of the menu bar. You can use the navigation panes or use menu commands to edit the application.
