Installing Notes on Linux
IBM® Lotus® Notes® is available as an install media kit. You can install Lotus Notes in graphical mode, silent mode, and by using Smart Upgrade.

Installation of Notes on Linux® is supported for multi-user only. For Linux, the Lotus Notes client-only is available in the Notes.ismp.linux installation media kit.

1. Shut down all applications.


2. If you have installed a previous Beta version of this Lotus Notes release, uninstall it before continuing.

3. As the root user, open a new terminal window or File Browser.

4. If you are obtaining the installation kit from a Web downloads page, open your Mozilla GTK2 browser and navigate to the Web page from which to obtain the download.


5. Locate the Lotus Notes installation media kit and save it to your /root folder.
6. Navigate to the folder in which you saved the installation kit and unpack the tar file.

7. Navigate to the directory that contains the unpacked setup.sh installation executable file.


8. Run the setup.sh installation executable by double-clicking on setup.sh or by running ./setup.sh in a shell.
9. Read the Welcome screen, and then click Next.

10. Read and accept the license agreement terms, and then click Next.

11. Accept the default install directory or choose a different install directory.


12. Select the features to install, and then click Next. These options include the following:
13. Read the preview screen for installation directory, features, and size and click Install. This process may take several minutes.
14. Read the installation summary screen and click Finish to exit the installation wizard.
Understanding what was installed

The following information describes what was installed:


Running the Notes client on Linux as a user after root user install

After you install the Notes client, users can log in and run Notes.

1. Log in as a non-root user.

2. Start Lotus Notes by clicking the Computer option - More Applications... - New Applications - Lotus Notes 8.

3. Respond to Notes setup prompts as they appear.
